Yellow Ribbon Education Program

At WyoTech, we understand how important getting an education is to you. We also think that anyone attending school should have every financial assistance opportunity available to start and finish their program of choice.*

Transitioning out of the military comes with its own unique set of challenges. You’ll have a lot of questions, and we have the information we think you’ll find helpful.

The Yellow Ribbon Participating School Program (Yellow Ribbon Program) is a provision of the Post-9/11 Veterans Educational Assistance Act of 2008. The Yellow Ribbon Program gives institutions of higher learning the option of voluntarily entering into an agreement with the VA to help fund a student’s tuition expenses.

Am I Eligible for the Yellow Ribbon Education Program?

You may be eligible if:

  • You served an aggregate period of active duty after September 10, 2001, or at least 36 months.
  • You received an honorable discharge from active duty for a service-connected disability and you served 30 consecutive days after September 10, 2001.
  • You are a dependent who is eligible for Transfer of Entitlement under the Post-9/11 GI Bill based on a veteran’s service under the eligibility of the above criteria.

How Does the Yellow Ribbon Program Benefit Me?

Effective August 1, 2011, the Post-9/11 GI Bill will pay all public school in-state tuition and fees or up to $18,077.50 per academic year for a private school.Your tuition and fees may exceed these amounts if you are attending a private school or are attending a public school as a nonresident student.

Institutions of higher learning (degree-granting institutions) may elect to participate in the Yellow Ribbon Program to make additional funds available for your education program without an additional charge to your GI Bill entitlement.

Institutions that voluntarily enter into a Yellow Ribbon Agreement with the VA choose the amount of tuition and fees that will be contributed. The VA will match that amount and issue payment directly to the institution.

WyoTech’s Yellow Ribbon Scholarship is $4,000, which the VA matches, for a total of $8,000.
